Scrappy Quilts

Scrappy quilts can be beautiful and create happy memories of past quilts made, or clothing worn. Sometimes we hesitate to use too many scraps because we feel our quilts get that 'busy' look to them. To help keep that busy-ness under control, make scrap quilts by-

choosing fabrics within a controlled color scheme, such as using all blues, creams and browns, or fabric styles, such as all florals or plaids. If you like busy-ness, go for it, but if you like some control, choose a color or design theme instead.



Create your own special scrap quilt by cutting up favorite old clothing and going to your local quilt shop and buying other fabrics to complement it.


Did you have a special quilt growing up?


One of the first quilts I made was a simple one patch made up of 6 inch squares from sewing scraps. I used a manila folder to create a template and a pair of dull scissors. To say my squares started to take on different shapes after a while would be a fair assessment! Sewing them together also proved to be a lesson in patience. Now that quilt serves as an example of why I want to take my time and also use the right tools for the job. It's also good for a laugh!
