Buying a Sewing Machine

A quality sewing machine is well worth the money spent if you spend countless hours at your machine.  Well known brands such as Pfaff, Janome, Babylock, Bernina, Brother and Viking are just some of the brands that carry a good reputation for quality.

Before buying a machine, do a little homework.  How often do you sew?  An inexpensive machine will not hold up to the sewer who is constantly sewing and/or embroidering.

Do you want the ability to do simple embroidery, specialty stitches or fancy embroidery? What features are important to you?  Are the features easy for you to use?

accessories that you want, or will you need to purchase them separately?  How much are you willing to spend?
Consider also servicing.  Can it be done locally, or will you have to travel or ship it somewhere to be serviced?

Does your dealer offer free lessons and are they willing to answer your questions once you take your machine home?
Visit machine dealers, look at features, ask questions and do some internet comparison.  Decide what is important to you in your dream machine and make a list.  Sewing machines are a big investment and you want to get your money’s worth, but you also don’t want to pay for a lot of features you may never use.
